Slicing an onion
Do you know how to slice an onion? It is pretty to do, but the trick is consistently cutting them. If you have a lot of different knife cuts, then it is going to cook differently. The following instructions will help get you to beautifully sliced onions. Let’s get started!
Equipment
- A sharp knife. If you don’t have a sharp knife, then you might want to read this post.
- A cutting board
Directions
There are two sides to an onion. One side is ‘smooth.’
This is the ‘smooth’ side, even though it has a little tail.
We want to cut this side first to give us a level surface to work with.
This is the ‘hairy’ side.
Note the little ‘hairs,’ which will help hold the onion together as we cut.
We make our first cut on the smooth side.
You want to cut off just the tip so that you can start controlling this rolly beast.
When making this cut, hold the onion securely because they want to roll.
Use your newly created flat side and steady that rolly thing.
Now slice the onion in half.
Remove the outer layer. (The brown stuff.)
Lay the onion flat with the ‘hairy’ side toward the back and SLICE THAT SUCKER!
Keep those slices thin!
Rinse and repeat until it becomes unsafe to hold the onion and cut a slice off.
That’s it! That’s all there is to slicing an onion.
We fried ours up and had them on some brats.
Until next time
