How to cut a cabbage

Cabbage, with its vibrant green tightly wrapped around a solid core, is a versatile vegetable that often takes center stage in various dishes. Whether you’re aiming to create a crisp coleslaw, hearty stir-fry, or flavorful sauerkraut, mastering the art of cutting cabbage is important to have in your bag of tricks. The process is simple which is how we like things here at hubby and lubby.

Equipment

  1. Knife (Make sure it is sharp)
  2. Cutting board

  1. Cabbage

Directions to Cut a Cabbage

The main trick about the cabbage is that the center is dense. Typically, we want to avoid using that part.

Place the bottom of the cabbage (shown here) on the cutting board.

Place one hand on top of the cabbage and cut the side.

Cut back until you get to the thick center. You will know when you see it! (Or just scroll down and take a look!) Once you get to the center on one side, rotate the cabbage to cut another side.

When you are done you will have something like a square, with a big thick center. Avoid that! But feel free to take off some more at the edges of the square. Use as much as you can.

Slice up the parts you cut into whatever size piece you want, and you are done! Easy!
