Say Goodbye to Store-Bought: The Ultimate Homemade Oat Milk Recipe!
Tired of the same old store-bought plant-based milks? Looking for a delicious and affordable alternative that you can whip up in your kitchen? Look no further than homemade oat milk! This dairy-free delight has been making waves in the health and wellness community, offering a creamy texture, mild flavor, and versatility that have earned it a top spot on the list of popular milk substitutes. Whether you’re vegan, lactose-intolerant, or simply curious about exploring new culinary horizons, homemade oat milk is waiting for you.
Equipment
- High-Speed Blender (I use a Vitamix)
- Nut Milk Bag and/or cotton cloth
- Bowl
- Pitcher (Pampered Chef)
Directions for Oat Milk
Fill up your blender with cold water to just below the top line. We want some space for our oats.
Add in oats. I use 1 cup of oats, but you can use more or less depending on how much oat flavor you want. Make sure to use old fashioned oats. Steel cut oats would need to soak for several hours to soften.
Blend on high for about 20 seconds. You don’t want to over blend or it gets slimy. Technically, you have oat milk, but it has a lot of pulp.
I like to double filter the oat milk. The first pass is through a nut milk bag.
Then I filter it again through a cotton cloth. Mine is just a cut up shirt. It was a new shirt that didn’t fit. I tried using an old shirt that I washed several times and it tasted like, well shirt.
I used to just filter through the nut milk bag, but it left the oat milk chalky.
And there you have it, your oat milk is done… OR is it? Sure you can drink it like it is, but I prefer something sweeter. I do have a massive sweet tooth after all.
I like to add in 2 tsp of vanilla.
And 4 tsp of brown sugar. Now you are done!
I like to put it in one of these mixing pitchers, which helps stir it when it settles.
Until next time,
Hubby
